ai Design Group Principal Kim Marks was recently recognized with a 2009 Women in Business Achievement Award by The Charlotte Business Journal. The annual Women in Business awards, now in its 13th year, honors 25 outstanding women from the Charlotte area for significant business accomplishments. Marks and the other award recipients will be honored on July 16, 2009 at the Charlotte Convention Center.

ai Design Group Inc. today announced it has completed the interior design for 6,000 square feet of Rodgers Builders’ three-story, center city office located at 400 W. Trade St. in Uptown Charlotte.
Led by Principal Kim Marks and Senior Designer Elizabeth Hamilton, aiDG tailored the space – including 10 offices, two conference rooms, a rooftop patio and open work areas – to the company’s needs and at the same time created an environmentally friendly interior by using a variety of eco-friendly products and materials. aiDG is working toward securing the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED for Commercial Interiors (LEED-CI) "Gold" rating, the recognized system for certifying high-performance green interiors that are healthy, productive places to work with a reduced environmental footprint.
“ai Design transformed a former law office into a fun, efficient and environmentally friendly work space that we are proud to show to our clients and visitors,” said Jennifer Trevisol, vice president of construction operations for Rodgers Builders. “Our needs were reflected in the design, giving us more floor space to spread out and exactly the right amount of storage.”
aiDG created customized storage areas for drawings and product submittals, as well as a large courier pick-up/drop-off area. Marks and her team retrofitted about 2,000 square feet on each of the center city office building’s three floors. Rodgers Builders’ corporate office is still located at 5701 N. Sharon Amity Road in Charlotte.
“Creating an ecologically sound and well-organized floor plan that would withstand the daily traffic of a busy construction office was the challenge,” said Marks. “Our solution was a comfortable functional and environmentally-friendly work environment that would be a source of pride for the company and its employees."

ai Design Group Inc. today announced it has completed the interior design of Vision Loft Optometry at Concord Mills, a 4,500 square-foot optometry and eye care center located across from Concord Mills Mall.
aiDG Principal Kim Marks and Senior Designer Elizabeth Hamilton led the project with a goal of creating an upscale boutique feel and New York City-style loft appeal. The space includes a spa-like waiting area and dedicated kid’s waiting area, three pre-test rooms, five exam rooms, contact lens fitting area, optical technician’s lab and a frame showroom.
“We had some initial ideas, but the aiDG team's design and space plan showed us so many more possibilities,” said Dr. Bonnie Chen, owner and optometrist. "The round elements and the green colors used throughout really make the place stand out. We can’t wait to show it off to our patients at our grand opening.”
aiDG also created a central check-in area that allows visitors to circulate around the office and is also more manageable for a small staff. A fish tank as a design element in the waiting area is a focal point.
"We wanted patients and visitors to come in and quickly associate the design with an upscale boutique while also feeling comfortable and well cared for,” said Marks. "We think we accomplished that through color, finishes and overall space flow."
